What is the Open Awards Level 3 Advanced OTDR Testing Course?

The Open Awards Level 3 Award in Advanced OTDR Testing is a communications networking course which provides an accredited level 3 certificate in OTDR testing.

This course provides delegates with the opportunity to learn the advanced theoretical and practical skills required for accurate and efficient fibre optic testing. Learners will develop their OTDR knowledge and gain an in-deptunderstanding of the elements included within the OTDR fault-finding process.

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for those who have some prior experience in fibre optic testing and are looking to expand their skillset or gain recognised certification to prove their ability. It is ideal for engineers who have previously completed the Open Awards Fibre Installation & Testing or City & Guilds 3668-02 courses and are looking to further develop their current testing knowledge.

What does the course cover?

The course aims to provide learners with an understanding of the elements involved in effective fault-finding and OTDR testing, to include Loss Budgets, ILM Testing, and the various equipment required for fault-finding such as the VFL and Inspection Probes. Learners will develop their skills in measuring a system using Advanced OTDR facilities along with post processing/emulation software. Learners will also deepen their knowledge of how to identify and overcome problems.

How do you complete the course?

This course consists of remote self-paced theory learning followed by 3 days attendance at our centre Students will be required to complete a written Theory Workbook whilst progressing through learning activities on our e-learn portal – these consist of video lessons and multiple-choice quizzes. Portal access is provided for up to 4 weeks and the work must be completed prior to the pre-booked centre attendance dates. We advise a minimum of 20 hours are allocated for the theory work, though individual learning hours can vary.

Practical details:

Our training centre is based in MelkshamWiltshire.

Practical dates consist of 3 days of hands-on workshops with each piece of equipment, including the latest industry product ranges from VIAVI Solutions. Learners will also complete final revisions of their Theory Workbook.

Extended Support and Aftercare:

At Fibreplus we pride ourselves on our extended support once our students have completed their course and are out working in the real world. Our Support Team and Trainers are always happy to speak over the phone and answer any questions if support is needed after the course has ended.
