This two-day course provides the practical skills and knowledge required to safely and accurately splice and test fibre optic cabling. Suitable for engineers of all experience levels, it offers a solid foundation in the techniques and best practices used for fibre installation and testing.
This course is suitable for anyone looking to develop or enhance their fibre optic splicing and testing skills. It is ideal for those new to the industry who want to learn the core principles of fibre installation, as well as experienced engineers wishing to refresh their knowledge and ensure they are working in line with current best practice.
Day one focuses on practical fusion splicing techniques. Delegates will learn how to successfully splice the two most common fibre types, 900 µm and 250 µm fibres, before progressing from basic fusion splices to pigtail splicing and joint enclosure splicing. The course also covers the most common splicing issues, their causes, and the techniques used to resolve them.
Day two introduces the essential methods used to test fibre optic installations. Delegates will learn how to use a Visual Fault Locator (VFL), carry out end-face inspection and insertion loss testing, and gain an introduction to OTDR testing. This includes setting up an OTDR, interpreting system traces and event tables, and identifying common faults.
This two-day course is delivered at our dedicated training facility in Melksham, Wiltshire. Delegates receive hands-on training using the latest equipment from Sumitomo and VIAVI, with all required equipment and PPE provided throughout the course.
