What is the City and Guilds 3668-02 Units 1 & 2 + CFOT course?

The City and Guilds 3668-02 course is a communications cabling course which provides a widely recognised qualification. Upon successful completion delegates will receive the City and Guilds Level 2 Award in Communications Cabling. The FOA CFOT course awards successful students the internationally recognised FOA certification for fibre optic applications. Students can take both courses simultaneously to achieve both certifications.

This course provides delegates with the opportunity to learn both theoretical and practical skills of fibre optic cabling. Learners will gain insight into the communications cabling industry and an understanding of the services offered as well as terminology, health & safety regulations, and the skills to install fibre optics.

The 3668 communications cabling qualifications provide eligibility for the relevant ECS Network Infrastructure Cards.

Who should attend?

City and Guilds 3668-02 + CFOT is suitable for those who are new to communications cabling, as well as those currently doing the job who are seeking certification. The course is ideal for those looking to gain the knowledge and skills required for specific job roles within the industry. It is also for those who wish to further develop their skills, expand their opportunities, and prove their professionalism.

What are the course requirements?

Basic knowledge of communications cabling would be beneficial; however, the 3668-02 + CFOT course is open to beginners within the Telecoms Industry.

What do the units cover?

Unit 1 covers Principles of Communications Cabling. The purpose of this mandatory unit is for learners to develop their knowledge and understanding of safe working practices, including basic principles required to work in the telecommunications industry.

Unit 2 covers Fibre Optic Cabling. This unit aims to provide the learner with the knowledge and understanding of installation, splicing, termination and testing of fibre optic cable in patch panels/equipment racks. This would usually take place in an indoor/external environment involving multimode and single-mode end-to-end cabling.

How do you complete the course?

Our City and Guilds 3668-02 course consists of virtual learning via our online portal and then in-house practical and assessments at our training centre once your online learning is completed.

Our online training consists of up to 4 weeks of online theory work on our online portal, which you complete at home. The learning consists of a video lesson and then multiple-choice question test, we also encourage our students do complete these tests and their unit mock exams more than once. This online work must be completed to 90% for admission.

Once you have completed the online learning you will come to our centre for 3 days to complete the practical assessments and exams - these do need to be in-house meaning you would need to come to our facility in Melksham, Wiltshire.

If you would prefer a fully in-house course, please contact us and we will see if this can be arranged.

Practical details:

Our Telecommunications Training Centre is based in Melksham in Wiltshire.

We can take on a maximum of 8 delegates on each course. This is so each student receives 1-1 time with the trainer and so there is enough equipment for each student to use individually. Our practical dates consist of hands-on workshops with each piece of equipment, including the latest industry product ranges from EXFO and Sumitomo.

Please note, exams are closed book examinations and are completed on the City and Guilds and FOA computer-based exam systems. Practical assessments are simulated exercises such as basic splicing, external and internal cable preparation and testing fibre optic cables. Results are given at the end of examination.

We require you to bring your ID for your City and Guilds registration. Other than this, we provide you with everything you need.

Extended Support and Aftercare:

At Fibreplus Ltd. we pride ourselves on our extended support once our students have completed their courses and applying their skills in the real world. Our students retain access to their online theory content and workshops after completing their course, meaning they can revise their knowledge at a later date. Our Support Team and Trainers are also always on hand to answer any questions and offer ongoing support where needed.

  • I really enjoyed the course even allowing for the fact everyone was concentrating rather a lot on the exams at the end. Please pass on my thanks to Pete and the Team for their time and in particular the preparation for the exams. I particularly enjoyed the external enclosure practical and the OTDR demonstration. Although I regularly working with fibre optics I picked up several bits of knowledge that will be very helpful in the future.

  • The whole experience with Fibreplus has been perfect, i'd forgotten what good customer service was until I enrolled with Fibreplus every call and mail was answered instantly and I was never left in the dark. I do not feel anything needs to be improved the whole team have managed this process extremely well even in person on exam days the training has been led safely without us students feeling restricted. Well done all involved. Im sure once the restrictions are lifted the training centre will be even more enhancing. Spot on from all involved.
