The City and Guilds 3668-02 course is a communications cabling course which provides an industry recognised qualification. Upon successful completion delegates will receive the City and Guilds Level 2 Award in Communications Cabling.
This course provides delegates with the opportunity to learn both theoretical and practical skills in fibre optic cabling. Learners will gain insight into the communications cabling industry and an understanding of the services offered as well as terminology, health & safety regulations, and the skills to install fibre optics.
The 3668 qualifications provide eligibility for the relevant ECS Network Infrastructure Installation Assistant cards.
City and Guilds 3668-02 is suitable for those who are new to communications cabling, as well as those currently doing the job who are seeking certification. This course is ideal for those looking to gain the knowledge and skills required for specific job roles within the industry. It is also for those who wish to further develop their skills, expand their opportunities, and prove their professionalism.
Basic knowledge of communications cabling would be beneficial; however, this course is open to beginners within the Telecoms Industry.
Each unit can be taken independently, however, to achieve the full 3668-02 certification Unit 1 needs to be completed alongside any other units.
Unit 1 covers Principles of Communications Cabling. The purpose of this mandatory unit is for learners to develop their knowledge and understanding of safe working practices, including basic principles required to work in the telecommunications industry.
Unit 2 covers Fibre Optic Cabling. This unit aims to provide the learner with the knowledge and understanding of installation, splicing, termination and testing of fibre optic cable in patch panels/equipment racks. This would usually take place in an indoor/external environment involving multimode and single-mode end-to-end cabling.
This is a hybrid online course consisting of remote theory learning and in-house practical and assessments at our training centre in Melksham, Wiltshire.
Learners will be provided up to 4 weeks of access to our e-learning portal, where they will need to complete theory-based learning activities. These consist of a video lesson and multiple-choice quiz for each module as well as end-of-unit mock exams. The work is self-paced but must be completed to a minimum of 90% for admission to our centre for the pre-booked practical training and exams. Our team tracks learner progress and provides full support throughout.
Delegates attend our Melksham centre for 2.5 days to complete practical workshops and two-unit exams. Exams are multiple choice, closed book and completed on the City and Guilds computer-based exam system. Practical assessments are simulated exercises such as internal and external splicing, and OTDR set-up and testing. These are performed on the latest product ranges from Sumitomo Electric and VIAVI Solutions.
At Fibreplus Ltd. we pride ourselves on our aftercare and support once students have completed their course. Students will retain access to their online theory content and workshops, meaning they can refresh their knowledge when it comes to applying their skills in the real world. Our Support Team and Trainers are also always on hand to answer any questions and offer advice where needed.
