What is the Basic Testing Course?

The Basic Testing Course is a one-day Fibreplus course that covers all the knowledge engineers need to test fibre optics accurately and safely.

Who should attend and what are the requirements?

Our Basic Testing Course is suitable for engineers who already have knowledge of testing within the Telecommunication industry or anyone who would like to gain knowledge of fibre testing at a basic level. There are no requirements for this course, it is open to anyone who is interested in learning about fibre optic testing.

What does the course cover?

The Basic Testing Course covers: Health and safety, Cleaning, Visual Fault Locator Testing, Inspecting Connector End Faces, Insertion Loss Testing with Light Source and Power Metre, An Introduction to OTDR Testing, and OTDR Set Up.

How do you complete the course?

Students will need to attend our facility for 1 day to complete theory classes and hands-on practical workshops with our trainer.

For students who would like additional time to prepare, we can provide up to 4 weeks online access to the class presentations and demo videos via our portal.

Practical details:

Our Telecommunications Training Centre is based in Melksham, Wiltshire.

Students will be required to come to our facility for one day to complete a practical workshop.

The workshop involves conducting a risk assessment, testing a 4 fibre system using a VFL, FIP and LS&PM, conducting a pass/fail and fault identification analysis, Conducting an OTDR on the system and analysing the total length, loss and identifying possible issues.

When you come to us, you will need to bring a form of ID with you. Other than this we provide you with everything you need.

Extended Support and Aftercare

At Fibreplus Telecommunications College we pride ourselves on our extended support once our students have completed their course. Our Support Team and Trainers are only a phone call away to answer any questions you have once you leave us.

  • "Fibreplus have an excellent facility and staff for all you fibre needs whether it be training purchasing or general sound advice. I have successfully completed both City & Guilds 3667-02 Units 1,2,&3 Level 2 in Communication Cabling (Fibre Optics), Level 3 BTEC Advanced test & Measurement (fibre Optics)and found the courses excellent very thorough and with a good mix of class work and hands on experience. I strongly advise Fibreplus as a first point of call for anyone looking to successfully advance in the world of fibre optics.
