What is the Advanced Testing Course?

The Advanced Testing Course is a 2-day Fibreplus course that covers both the basic and advanced skills involved in accurately and safely testing a fibre system.

Who should attend and what are the course requirements?

Our Advanced Testing Course is suitable for beginners within the industry and those already working in the industry who would like to gain an advanced knowledge of fibre optic testing. There are no requirements for this course, although a basic understanding of fibre optics would be beneficial.

What does the course cover?

The Advanced Testing Course covers: Health and safety, Cleaning, Visual Fault Locator Testing, Inspecting Connector End Faces, Insertion Loss Testing with Light Source and Power Metre, An Introduction to OTDR Testing, OTDR Set up, Advanced OTDR Testing (Manual Measurements of event loss, Thresholds, Examples of less common issues, Smart Link Mapper), FiberComplete, Bi Directional OTDR and IL/ ORL Testing.

How do you complete the course?

Students will need to attend our facility for 2 days to complete theory classes and hands-on practical workshops with our trainer.

For students who would like additional time to prepare, we can provide up to 4 weeks online access to the class presentations and demo videos via our portal prior to attendance.

Practical details:

Students will be required to come to our facility for two days to complete a practical workshop, which involves conducting a risk assessment of the testing process, identifying and using the correct hierarchy of equipment to evaluate system content, and conducting a detailed pass/fail and fault analysis of the fibre system and component parts.

Our Telecommunications Training Centre is based in Melksham, Wiltshire.

Extended Support and Aftercare

At Fibreplus Telecommunications College we pride ourselves on our extended support once our students have completed their course. Our Support Team and Trainers are only a phone call away to assist with any questions you have once you leave us.

  • “Very friendly and knowledgeable staff

  • I came to Fibreplus for a FOA Technician course, expecting to gain practical knowledge in working with optical fibers and pass the international FOA certification. To be honest, the training I underwent at Fibreplus exceeded all my expectations. The instructor Pete, a kind and professional person, guided the group in an excellent manner, answered questions and helped at every stage of the preparation for the tests and the practical work at the laboratory stations. The equipment we worked with was of the highest level and perfectly maintained. The preparation for the test was excellent and the printed study material we received helped us prepare properly. Thank you to the team, to the kind Stefanie who guided the training process until we arrived at the facility in a friendly and patient manner, and to Pete the excellent instructor.

  • “A great training provider. Did the 1 week fibre course and really enjoyed it. The tutor was very knowledgeable and was a great teacher. The equipment we used was all top grade, was a lot of hands on practical work which helped break up the day from the theory stuff. Would certainly recommend Fiberplus to anyone looking for training in this field.

  • Having reached out to multiple training centres in order to get my level 1 & 2 for the C&G 3668 - 02 in Fibre Optics, I eventually settled with Fibreplus in Melksham which is a 3 hr drive for me. The reason for my choice was simply the assistance, professionalism of the staff with my enquiry & questions especially Stef who is brilliant with her knowledge & communication, if she didnt have the answer she got it & called me back. The support that I got when doing the self study was 2nd to none (so many emails LOL) . Then came the in house training & exam prep then exams. Here Peter was brilliant taking time to explain thoroughly and assist in the practical sessions splicing, testing, & walking through each process. Happy to say I passed the exams. Now looking to do the Advanced OTDR testing soon. I cant reccomend Fibreplus enough for your training needs. Reach out to Stef with your questions.

  • “I first used Fibreplus for training 2 years ago. The training was fantastic and well delivered. I have just purchased test equipment from them which and their expertise has been invaluable for ensuring that I have ordered the right thing first time. I would recommend Fibreplus for both training and equipment sales.
