What is the Advanced Testing Course?

The Advanced Testing Course is a two-day Fibreplus course that covers every aspect of testing so that engineers can test fibre optics accurately and safely.

Who should attend and what are the course requirements?

Our Advanced Testing Course is suitable for beginners within the industry and those already working in the industry who would like to gain an advanced knowledge of fibre optic testing. There are no requirements for this course, although a basic understanding of fibre optics would be beneficial.

What does the course cover?

The Advanced Testing Course covers: Health and safety, Cleaning, Visual Fault Locator Testing, Inspecting Connector End Faces, Insertion Loss Testing with Light Source and Power Metre, An Introduction to OTDR Testing, OTDR Set up, Advanced OTDR Testing, OLTS Testing, Optical Explorer (OX1) Testing, and Reporting and Job Management.

How do you complete the course?

Students will need to attend our facility for 2 days to complete theory classes and hands-on practical workshops with our trainer.

For students who would like additional time to prepare, we can provide up to 4 weeks online access to the class presentations and demo videos via our portal.

Practical details:

Our Telecommunications Training Centre is based in Melksham, Wiltshire.

Students will be required to come to our facility for two days to complete a practical workshop.

The workshop involves conducting a risk assessment of the testing process, fully certifying a 4 fibre system, and conducting a detailed pass/fail and fault identification analysis of the fibre system and component parts,

When you come to us, you will need to bring a form of ID with you. Other than this we provide you with everything you need.

Extended Support and Aftercare

At Fibreplus Telecommunications College we pride ourselves on our extended support once our students have completed their course. Our Support Team and Trainers are only a phone call away to answer any questions you have once you leave us.

  • “I can honestly say one of the best courses I have been on. Course content very good. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable. I will be returning to study further courses with fibre plus. Shout out to 'Jamie' whom I thought was most helpful thought out my time at fibre plus.

  • Two courses completed down at Fibreplus in Melksham, both courses were fully loaded with valuable information but ran smoothly and with a good environment. Instructors know their stuff and they're all willing to pass on their knowledge. I purchases some equipment after the course too, this was well organised and I even had to call to pick their brains once, which they were more than happy to help. Keep up the good work!

  • "Fibreplus have an excellent facility and staff for all you fibre needs whether it be training purchasing or general sound advice. I have successfully completed both City & Guilds 3667-02 Units 1,2,&3 Level 2 in Communication Cabling (Fibre Optics), Level 3 BTEC Advanced test & Measurement (fibre Optics)and found the courses excellent very thorough and with a good mix of class work and hands on experience. I strongly advise Fibreplus as a first point of call for anyone looking to successfully advance in the world of fibre optics.
