What is the Online Level 3 Award in Fibre Optic Network Design & Planning?

The Fibre Optic Network Design & Planning course is a flexible, online programme which provides an accredited level 3 qualification in optical network design.

This course aims to provide delegates the skills required to design and plan an external fibre optic network, including the core principles, route planning and design requirements.

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for experienced fibre engineers who are looking to expand their skillset or gain recognised certification in network design and planning. It is aimed at those currently working within the fibre optic industry who are looking to increase their promotional prospects, as well as those already working in supervisory and management roles who want to prove their professionalism.

Prior completion of a fibre installation & testing course, such as City & Guilds 3668-02 or Open Awards Fibre Optic Installation & Testing, is recommended before undertaking this course.

What does the course cover?

The course aims to provide learners with an understanding of the core principles of network design, including the use of fibre types and optical components, and advantages and limitations of different types of fibre ducts, subduct, fibre tubes, bundles and cables.

It also aims to provide skills in route planning, including selecting appropriate tools, creating documentation and commission testing, as well as an understanding of design requirements for Access Networks, and implications on network maintenance and emergency repair issues.

How do you complete the course?

This course is delivered online through our e-learning portal. Students will work through a series of video lessons alongside a written theory workbook and complete a case study design & planning project as they progress through the course. Tutor support is provided remotely via teams, phone, email and live chat.

Portal access is provided for up to six weeks. Students are asked to submit their completed work for initial feedback within four weeks of starting the course.

In-house delivery can also be arranged, subject to availability and additional cost.

Extended Support and Aftercare:

At Fibreplus Telecommunications College we pride ourselves on our extended support once our students have completed their course and are out working in the real world. Our Support Team and Trainers are always happy to speak over the phone and answer any questions if support is needed after the course has ended.

  • “A great training provider. Did the 1 week fibre course and really enjoyed it. The tutor was very knowledgeable and was a great teacher. The equipment we used was all top grade, was a lot of hands on practical work which helped break up the day from the theory stuff. Would certainly recommend Fiberplus to anyone looking for training in this field.
