What is the City and Guilds 3668-03 course?

City & Guilds 3668-03 is a Level 3 qualification in Communications Cabling, aimed at network cabling professionals who are looking to expand their knowledge and skills to further progress within the industry. Our 3668-03 courses cover Fault Finding & Diagnostics, and External Network Design & Planning.

This certification is eligible for ELC MOD Resettlement funding. Fibreplus are an MOD-approved Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme provider (no.3877). For further details on how to book a 3668-03 course using ELCAS credits please get in touch with our training department.

3668-03 qualification provides eligibility for the ECS Network Infrastructure Installer (Level 3) card.

Who should attend?

3668-03 is suited to existing network cabling professionals, due to the knowledge needed to achieve the certification. It is aimed at those looking to increase their promotional prospects, as well as those already working in supervisory and management roles who want to prove their professionalism.

The qualification also provides progression for delegates who have already completed the City and Guilds 3668-02 Fibre Optic Installation and Testing course. The 3668-03 qualification is the best “progression pathway” for delegates with prior experience in fibre optic testing who wish to enhance their knowledge in areas such as Fibre Fault Finding or Network Design.

What do the units cover?

To achieve the full level 3 certificate students will need to complete 301 & 302 alongside one additional unit.  At Fibreplus we offer both these core units as well as two additional units.

Please note we can accommodate a maximum of three units per course run (301 & 302 + 307 or 309).

Unit 301 This core unit covers the safe working practices and behaviours required to work in the public highway, underground, overhead and internal networks to the safety standards as laid out by legislation and industry standards. It will also develop the students communication skills and behaviours with customers, peers and hierarchy.

Unit 302 This core unit provides learners with the underpinning knowledge and skills required to progress within a variety of job functions. The concepts will be relevant to both wired and wireless components of data and telecommunications networks. Students will explore issues such as enterprise cabling and telecoms utilities.

Unit 307 This unit aims to provide learners with an understanding of the fault-finding tools and processes involved when determining faults on a communications network. Students will apply this understanding by demonstrating the appropriate use and selection of tools when undertaking troubleshooting of faults on a network.

Unit 309 This unit aims to provide learners with an understanding of the industry standards and requirements involved in external network design & planning. Learners will develop an understanding of the considerations, skills, and procedures necessary to plan an external fibre network.

How do you complete the course?

Our 3668-03 courses are delivered in-house at our training facility in Melksham, Wiltshire.

To complete units 301 & 302 + 1 additional unit, you will need to attend our facility for 5 days Monday-Friday.

At our facility, you will be required to complete assignments for each unit, which can involve both written & practical work.

  • “A great training provider. Did the 1 week fibre course and really enjoyed it. The tutor was very knowledgeable and was a great teacher. The equipment we used was all top grade, was a lot of hands on practical work which helped break up the day from the theory stuff. Would certainly recommend Fiberplus to anyone looking for training in this field.

  • Two courses completed down at Fibreplus in Melksham, both courses were fully loaded with valuable information but ran smoothly and with a good environment. Instructors know their stuff and they're all willing to pass on their knowledge. I purchases some equipment after the course too, this was well organised and I even had to call to pick their brains once, which they were more than happy to help. Keep up the good work!
