The qualification also provides progression for delegates who have already completed the City and Guilds 3667-02 Fibre Optic Installation and Testing course. The course is the best “progression pathway” for delegates who want to increase their promotional prospects, move into their telecommunication infrastructure role or enhance their knowledge of cabling infrastructure design.
What does the course cover?
The Level 3 Certificate in Design and Planning Communications Networks (3667-03) covers the study of current telecommunications networks and computer data networks, planning and project management. The course investigates the issues and protocols involved in planning and project management in depth to ensure complete confidence.
Unit 1 covers concepts of Design & Planning a Communications Infrastructure. The unit covers in detail: the terms used and different types of communications infrastructure, principles of planning, UK licences, legislation and codes of practice and project management tools. The unit is concerned with the principles of Design and Planning Communications Infrastructure in a range of environments.
And then you choose from one of the following:
Unit 2 covers Design & Planning for an Internal Network Cabling Infrastructure. The unit covers in detail: Site Surveys - Internal Network Cabling Infrastructure (NCI), NCI provision options and optimum routes, NCI Designs. This unit will provide the learner with the basic principles needed to plan an underground cable route. Also, how internal or campus communications infrastructure is specified, planned and provided.
Unit 3 covers Design & Planning for an External Overhead Network Cabling Infrastructure. The unit covers in detail: Site Survey for External Overhead Telecoms Infrastructure, preliminary, provisional and detailed designs for an External Overhead Communications cabling infrastructure and determining workflow activities.
Unit 4 covers concepts of Design & Planning for an External Underground Network Cabling Infrastructure. The unit covers in detail: External Underground Telecoms Infrastructure, preliminary, provisional and detailed designs for an External Underground Communications Infrastructure and determining workflow activities.
How do you complete the course?
Our Design and Planning course will mainly be delivered via our online training portal with full support from our trainer and training administrators.
On our online portal you begin with the Unit 1 theory content and are encouraged to complete the Unit 1 theory practice assessment. Once completed you can move on to complete the project design briefs for your chosen units (2, 3 and/or 4). Please note that delegates will need to successfully complete unit 1 in order to move onto one of the optional units (2, 3 and/or 4).
Once the Unit 1 learning and projects are completed you will come into us for your pre-booked 1 day in our training centre. This will be to complete your Unit 1 written exam and to sign off on your completed projects with our trainer.
All written examinations (Unit 1 written exam) are marked externally by a City and Guilds examiners. City and Guilds normally release delegate results within 45 working days upon submission of verified examination papers.
Throughout the course delegates are provided with a comprehensive course manual. Firstly a PDF version whilst they work on our online portal, and once they come to use they will be given a physical manual to work through during their time with us.
Our Telecommunications Training Centre is based in Melksham, Wiltshire.
Our 3667-03 course runs monthly, and we take on a maximum of 8 delegates on each course, this is so each student receives 1-1 time with the trainer. Our practical dates consist of their Unit 1 written exam and project sign off.
Our practical dates for the 3667-03 are just one day. However, the delegate will have had 4 weeks of online learning and support on our online portal beforehand.
All candidates are assessed via a 2 hour written examination paper consisting of 15 short written answers. The examination is closed book and takes place at our training centre. Please note the Unit 1 written exam is marked externally by City and Guilds examiners.
